    The World Wide Web technology, which is supported on the Internet, is transforming all business activities into information-based activities, where one can see a radical change of the traditional theoretical models and organizations. The small and medium enterprises are the type of enterprise that can benefit more using the Internet for digital business. We have found out that current methodologies present gaps that make them not good enough to help small and medium sized enterprises define such a strategy and follow an implementation path.     Tese de doutoramento em Tecnologias e Sistemas de InformaçãoA tecnologia da World Wide Web, que se suporta na Internet, está a transformar todas as actividades de negócio em actividades baseadas em informação, assistindo-se a uma mudança radical dos modelos teóricos e de organização tradicionais. As pequenas e médias empresas constituem o tipo de empresa que mais vantagens podem retirar da utilização da Internet para o comércio electrónico e o negócio electrónico. No entanto, os resultados da adopção de comércio e negócio electrónico, a este nível, contrariam a expectativa. Na procura de razões para o facto, constatámos que as metodologias existentes possuem insuficiências para ajudar as pequenas e médias empresas a definir e implementar uma tal estratégia. Concluiu-se, assim, sobre a necessidade da definição de uma metodologia que recolha essas insuficiências e proponha alternativas que permitam colmatar as mesmas. Atendendo à relevância do assunto, tornou-se no objectivo deste trabalho de investigação, a procura de uma metodologia que permita endereçar todas as perspectivas relacionadas com a adopção e implementação de mecanismos de comércio electrónico e negócio electrónico na pequenas e médias empresas. Tendo por referência esta finalidade, foi desenvolvida uma metodologia específica para a implementação de mecanismos de comércio electrónico e negócio electrónico na pequena e média empresa, tendo uma base teórica sólida e uma validação prática real.The World Wide Web technology, which is supported on Internet, is transforming all business activities into information-based activities, where one can see a radical change of the traditional theoretical models and organization. Small and medium enterprises are the type of enterprises that can take more advantages with the use of Internet for electronic commerce and electronic business. Nevertheless, the results coming from the EC and EB adoption are opposite to expectations. Searching reasons for this fact, we found that existing methodologies are insufficient to help small and medium enterprises to define and implement such a strategy. Thus, we concluded about the need of a methodology definition able to overcome those gaps and propose alternatives. Taking into account the meaning of this topic the aim of this research work is to seek for a methodology able to lead all the perspectives related with adoption and implementation of electronic commerce and electronic business in the small and medium enterprises. Having this goal in mind, a specific methodology was developed to implement the electronic commerce and electronic business mechanisms in the small and medium enterprises having a solid theoretical ground and a practical real validation

    Identifying immersive environments’ most relevant research topics: an instrument to query researchers and practitioners

    This paper provides an instrument for ascertaining researchers’ perspectives on the relative relevance of technological challenges facing immersive environments in view of their adoption in learning contexts, along three dimensions: access, content production, and deployment. It described its theoretical grounding and expert-review process, from a set of previously-identified challenges and expert feedback cycles. The paper details the motivation, setup, and methods employed, as well as the issues detected in the cycles and how they were addressed while developing the instrument.
